Jodie Foster Defends Stewart!

Jodie Foster has come to the defense of actress Kristen Stewart, who played her daughter in the 2002 film Panic Room. In an essay written for The Daily Beast, Foster rails on the paparazzi and the tabloid press who have been fixated on the Twilight star and her recent cheating scandal. “We’ve all seen the headlines at the check-out counter. ‘Kristen Stewart Caught.’ We’ve all thumbed the glossy pages here and there. ‘Kris and Rob a couple?’ We all catch the snaps. ‘I like that dress. I hate the hair. Cute couple. Bad shoes,’” writes Foster. “But we seldom consider the childhoods we unknowingly destroy in the process.”  Foster says when she started in the business 46 years ago, “You could still manage to reach for a star-powered career and have the authenticity of a private life,” something that’s not possible today. She adds, “If I were a young actor or actress starting my career today in the new era of social media and its sanctioned hunting season, would I survive? Would I drown myself in drugs, sex, and parties? Would I be lost? If I were a young actor today I would quit before I started.” Meanwhile, reports that Kristen Stewart was dropped from the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel aren’t exactly true. According to Universal, the Hollywood Reporter story that first broke the news is “inaccurate,” because “there isn’t a script yet,” so it isn’t known which characters will appear in future instalments. Explained a rep for Universal, “the studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise.” Gossip Cop adds that Stewart hadn’t signed on for the film yet, so there’s no way she could have been dropped from it. Finally, Robert Pattinson continues to not talk about the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal. During his interview with Good Morning America yesterday, Pattinson once again evaded all questions about the status of their relationship.  In other Robert Pattinson news…the Twilight star has just signed on to play British Army officer T.E. Lawrence, a.k.a. Lawrence of Arabia, in the new movie Queen of the Desert. The film focuses on Lawrence's relationship with writer/explorer Gertrude Bell (played by Naomi Watts).
