Shailene Woodley: “Twilight” Is About an “Unhealthy, Toxic Relationship”
In “Divergent,” Shailene Woodley plays the courageous Tris Prior, and in real life, she isn’t afraid to take on her young adult competition.
While promoting her new film, Woodley spoke with E! News about the “Twilight” film series, throwing a bit of shade at the film’s central relationship between Edward and Bella.
“‘Twilight,’ I’m sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship,” she told E! “She falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she’s going to kill herself! What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve.”
One young adult heroine she has no beef with is Katniss Everdeen, since Woodley has been open about getting advice from “Hunger Games” actress Jennifer Lawrence before signing on to play Tris.
In “Divergent,” based on the Veronica Roth novel of the same name, Tris has a flirtation with Four (Theo James), a mysterious higher-up in the Dauntless clan.
“Divergent” hits theaters on Friday, March 21. Was Shailene speaking the truth or was she out of line? Let us know in the comments section below!
