Will “Mockingjay” Use CGI for Unfilmed Philip Seymour Hoffman Scene?
Philip Seymour Hoffman only had about a week left to film in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” when he suddenly passed.
With most of his scenes in the can, “The Hollywood Reporter” suggests that Lionsgate plans to digitally recreate the actor for a pivotal scene that has yet to be filmed.
Hoffman played Plutarch Heavensbee in the franchise, first appearing in last fall’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
“You can do digital things, you can have conversations where you’re not focusing on him but the people he’s talking to,” a source tells “THR.”
An effects supervisor for “Wolf of Wall Street” adds to “THR” that from a professional standpoint, “the technology of using someone’s likeness is a whole lot easier to do.”
“Mockingjay Part 1” will bow this November, with the franchise closer expected to hit theaters in November 2015.
