Goodbye, “American Idol”?

FOX might soon be saying sayonara to one of their longest-running hits.

Once-juggernaut “American Idol” is on the chopping block, at least according to 21st Century Fox CEO Chase Carey.

According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” Carey noted on a recent earnings call that “Idol” is going through “a transition.”

Beyond that, he opened up about the show’s sinking ratings, which he said had “fallen faster than we hoped.”

“We know ‘American idol’ is winding down,” Carey added.

The singing competition series returned to FOX last month to its lowest-ever premiere ratings. “Idol” shook things up on the panel this year, featuring returning judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban with Harry Connick, Jr.

It isn’t the only reality series on the network that could possibly get the axe, as FOX entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly told critics last month that “The X Factor” could return for season four, but not in the current format.

Reilly concluded by saying that a decision should be made on the show’s future this month.
