Nick Cannon Signs on for “Drumline” Sequel

Nick Cannon is the husband of pop superstar Mariah Carey, but he’s about to show off his own musical skills once again.

The actor-comedian has signed on to reprise his role of Devon Miles in a TV movie sequel to 2002’s “Drumline,” which is set to air on VH1.

The telefilm, titled “Drumline: A New Beat,” will follow new characters at a university in New Orleans.

According to Deadline, it focuses on Dani, “an upper-class Brooklyn girl who defies her parents in order to attend a college in Louisiana so she can join – and revitalize – their once-prominent drumline.”

For those who don’t remember, Cannon’s love interest, Laila, from the original film was played by Zoe Saldana, but she might be a bit busy to return for the sequel.

Aside from starring in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and NBC’s “Rosemary’s Baby” miniseries, she’s also signed on to star in three “Avatar” sequels.

Do you think a “Drumline” sequel’s a great idea or does it leave you scratching your head?
