Alison Sweeney Leaving “Days of Our Lives” After 21 Years
It’s the end of an era for “Days of Our Lives,” as the daytime soap is losing one of its most beloved stars.
Alison Sweeney stopped by “Ellen” on Monday, where she shocked the crowd by announcing her departure from the show after more than two decades.
“I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show,” she told host Ellen DeGeneres (via “TV Guide”). “I’ve been on ‘Days of Our Lives’ since I was 16 years old, and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time.”
Sweeney has played Sami on the hit sudser for the past 21 years. The actress, who continues to host NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” as well, plans to spend more time with her children.
Her last day has not been set, but she says she will continue to appear throughout the year.
