Hugh Grant Tries to “Rewrite” the Rom-Com

It’s been ages since we’ve seen Hugh Grant in a traditional romantic comedy.

Hugh will romance Marisa Tomei in “The Rewrite,” where he stars as a grouchy screenwriter who finds himself “slumming” as a college professor and mistakes one of his students (Tomei) for a fellow teacher.

Crackling chemistry ensues in his first real rom-com since 2007’s underrated “Music and Lyrics.

That’s no coincidence either, as “Rewrite” comes from the same director as the Drew Barrymore-starring comedy.

The film also features performances from the always delightful Allison Janney as an administrator and J.K. Simmons (“Juno”) in a supporting role.

Grant had a good run in romantic comedies in the early ‘00s, appearing in everything from “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and its sequel to “About a Boy” and “Love Actually.”

In recent memory, he had a role in the Wachowskis’ “Cloud Atlas” and a voice role in “The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

“The Rewrite” will hit U.K. theaters in October, but a U.S release is still up in the air. Would you watch it?
