Maroon 5 is already Top 10 with "Maps," the first single from its upcoming fifth album, "V."
The uptempo song was co-written by frontman Adam Levine and a team that includes producers Ryan Tedder and Benny Blanco.
Guitarist James Valentine tells us that "Maps" is a perfect introduction to the "V" album and an extension of the style Maroon 5 did on its platinum 2012 album "Overexposed."
"Ryan is amazing, Ryan Tedder, and we had a great experience working with him on the last record and we had amazing times with him on the road with OneRepublic and he just always brings in amazing ideas. And I think for us, too, we really like that song. It really has those elements of the Police that have always been a huge, huge influence on us.
We're usually trying to do stuff that sound contemporary but is still classic. I mean, everybody says that. That's what they're always going for. I think that song sort of achieves that, at least in my mind."
The "V" album is due out September 2, though Maroon 5 isn't planning an extensive tour until 2015 due to Levine's commitment to NBC's "The Voice."
