Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a… tennis match?
Will Ferrell has joined “Match Maker,” a film based on the Battle of the Sexes, the iconic 1973 tennis game between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.
Having already conquered just about every other sport imaginable in films like “Semi-Pro,” “Blades of Glory,” “Talladega Nights” and “Kicking & Screaming,” it only makes sense he’d turn to tennis.
Yet it’s somewhat unclear whether “Match Maker” will be a drama, as “Variety” reports, or a sports comedy, as “The Hollywood Reporter” suggests.
With Ferrell, one never knows, but what is known is that will be directly adapted from an “ESPN Magazine” article titled ‘The Match Maker: Bobby Riggs, The Mafia and The Battle of the Sexes.’
The “Anchorman 2” actor is also producing a comedy pilot for NBC called “Mission Control,” which combines the Battle of the Sexes theme and astronauts in the 1960s.
