Warner Bros. Reboots “Gilligan’s Island” with Josh Gad
“Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of another fateful trip” to “Gilligan’s Island.”
Warner Bros. announced Tuesday that they plan to reboot the mid-‘60s TV classic with a new feature film, Deadline reports.
Josh Gad, who found stardom in the original Broadway production of “Book of Mormon,” is attached to star.
Though it has not been confirmed, Gad is expected to take on the role of the goofy Gilligan, originally played by the late Bob Denver.
“Gilligan’s Island” premiered in 1964, starring seven castaways on a tropical island after their tour boat crashes. The series ran for three seasons and went on to spawn three follow-up TV movies in the ‘70s.
Original stars Dawn Wells (Mary Ann), Tina Louise (Ginger) and Russell Johnson (The Professor) are all still alive, though it is too early to know if the trio might make a cameo in the film.
Since leaving “Book of Mormon,” Gad starred on the short-lived NBC sitcom “1600 Penn” and has had roles in “The Internship” and Disney’s “Frozen” this year.
