Shia LaBeouf Apologizes for Short Film Plagiarism Controversy

Shia LaBeouf
’s attempt to transition from film star to filmmaker could have gone a little more smoothly.

The “Transformers” star premiered a new short film online this week, and the comparisons between “HowardCantour.com” a comic called “Justin M. Damiano.”

On Twitter, LaBeouf apologized to the comic’s author, Daniel Clowes, stating that he was “embarrassed that I failed to credit @danielclowes for his original graphic novella Justin M. Damiano, which served as my inspiration.”

The actor chalked the situation up to his “excitement and naivete as an amateur filmmaker,” before simply stating, “I f***ed up.”

Clowes, whose name is not credited in “HowardCantour.com,” also opened up about the plagiarism claims to BuzzFeed after receiving a link to the video.

“I’ve never seen one of [Shia’s] films that I can recall – and I was shocked, to say the least, when I saw that he took the script and even many of the visuals form a very personal story I did six or seven years ago and passed it off as his own work,” he said. “I actually can’t imagine what was going through his mind.”
