Fresh Trailer: Lea Michele Clicks Her Heels in “Legends of Oz”

Reimaginings of “
The Wizard of Oz” are all the rage in Hollywood this year, as the original classic celebrates its 75th anniversary.

Aside from what seems to be a dozen interpretations in the works at various TV networks, the success “Oz the Great & Powerful” is likely the start of a new film franchise.

What’s more, “Glee” actress Lea Michele is leading a new animated musical of the L. Frank Baum classic titled “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.”

Unlike the infamously dark “Return to Oz,” starring Fairuza Balk (“The Craft”) in 1985, the new film takes a lighter touch when following Dorothy’s trek back to the magical Land of Oz.

The animated adaptation, which is geared toward a younger audience, features Michele and the rest of the cast performing original songs.

According to Yahoo, Broadway star Bernadette Peters, Megan Hilty (“Smash”), Jim Belushi, Hugh Dancy, Oliver Platt, Dan Akyroyd and Martin Short are among the film’s voice actors.

“Legends of Oz” will hit theaters on May 9, 2014. Is it just for the kids or does it have potential for the parents as well? Sound off in the comments!
