Bob Harper Comes Out on “The Biggest Loser”
While “The Biggest Loser” constantly pushes its contestants to make emotional breakthroughs, trainer Bob Harper realized this week that he must make one of his own to help a contestant.
Bobby Saleem, one of this season’s contestants, has been struggling to come out, leading Harper to open up about his life, “The Huffington Post” reports.
“I haven’t talked about my sexuality on this show ever,” he said (via “Us Weekly”). “And now, meeting Bobby, I really do believe this is the right time. I want to show Bobby that he doesn’t have to live in shame.”
While Harper has stayed mum about his sexuality on camera, he said he has been open in his personal life for more than three decades.
“I’m gay. I knew a very long time ago that I was gay,” he told the contestant. “When I came out – when I was 17 years old – it was one of those things where I realized that there was going to be so many obstacles, but being gay doesn’t mean being weak… It’s just who you are.”
Harper tweeted to fans:
His co-star, Jillian Michaels, also came out as bisexual when she adopted her two kids with her partner. “The Biggest Loser” airs Tuesday nights at 8pm on NBC.
