Mariah Carey: I “Hated” My Time on “American Idol”
Mariah Carey has put “American Idol” in her rearview mirror, and from the sound of it, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
In an interview with a New York radio station, when asked about her experience, the singer said she “hated” working on the FOX singing competition series.
“Honestly, I hated it because… Here’s what it was. I was led to believe, I was the first person who signed on... But honestly, I thought it was going to be a three-person panel,” she said.
After producers gave her “a nice dangling monetary moment” and she knew she’d be working with Randy Jackson, who she says she’s known forever, she thought it would be a breeze.
“[I thought], like, this isn’t a big deal. This will be nothing. But it wasn’t that,” she said. “It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan.”
Though Mariah does not name names, she’s most likely talking about Nicki Minaj, with whom there was a great deal of on-air friction.
She added that though she was disappointed, she really enjoyed meeting the contestants, though she called out the show for eliminating them for “political reasons.”
