Jonas Brothers Open Up About Scrapped Album, the Band’s Breakup

As part of their breakup, the Jonas Brothers have decided to scotch plans to finish and release their in-progress fifth album.

The trio appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" to address their decision to split up, and during the chat they revealed that instead of a full album they'll release a package featuring four new songs and 10 live tracks from its summer tour.

During the interview Joe Jonas said that musical differences were part of the reason for the breakup -- "We felt like it was starting to get stale to us," he noted -- while earlier this year Kevin Jonas told us that making the album had been difficult:

"See, what happened was we got in the studio and we started writing and it didn't feel right, just like, 'Ugh, we’re just not there yet.' So we took some more time off. Then we came back together and... I think it just meant our heads were at, our focus, what we were thinking and...We were able to say, 'OK, this isn't right for us yet,' and that was fine."

He added that "First Time," which will be one of the four new songs the group releases, was a pivotal track that helped put the group back in gear."

On "GMA," meanwhile, Nick Jonas said personal issues were paramount in the breakup:

"We're family first, and that's always been our main priority and so honestly within what we do as a group was really important. In a nutshell, I said, 'I feel like we've had some complications within the group for a long time without addressing them. I think this train will fall off the tracks without getting real about some of the limitations and some of the concerns that we may feel as individuals and within the group.' It was a tough conversation...And now we've all come to a place after a lot of time thinking about it and talking about it together where we feel like we're best suited to do our own individual things, all things we're passionate about, and be brothers first."

Joe Jonas added that the brothers have pledged to "support each other on our own adventures along the way."
