Tom Hardy to Play Elton John in “Rocketman” Biopic
Tom Hardy is set to take on the role of Captain Fantastic for the forthcoming Elton John biopic “Rocketman.”
“Entertainment Weekly” reports that Hardy, best known for playing the villainous Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” and appearing in “Inception,” will play the iconic musician in the film.
According to “EW,” the film follows the “I’m Still Standing” singer’s story “from his childhood to his unbelievable rise to fame.”
It’s unclear how much singing Hardy will do in the film, if any, as John himself is re-recording some of his greatest hits “to match the emotional moments in the film.”
John, of course, is also on board to perform an as-yet-unnamed number in the upcoming “Lady Gaga & the Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular,” and recently performed a Liberace tribute at the 2013 Primetime Emmys in honor of “Behind the Candelabra.”
It’s a big year for Elton John, whose “Lion King” musical has officially passed the $1 billion mark in ticket sales as of this week. He also released his most recent LP, “The Diving Board,” in September of this year, hitting no. 4 on the Billboard 200.
Rocketman is expected to begin filming next fall. What do you think of the choice of Tom Hardy as Elton John? Cast your vote in the comments section below!
