Katy Perry Reveals “Unconditionally” Single, What She Really Wanted to Name “Prism”

With Katy Perry’s “Prism” out now and ready to light up the charts, the singer has dropped her latest single.

As promised, Perry released “Unconditionally” on Tuesday, the same day her album hit stores. The new song comes with a black-and-white lyric video she posted on her official site.

The emotionally-revealing love song, rumored to be apart her relationship with John Mayer, is part of the pop singer’s new approach, a more down-to-earth follow-up to “Teenage Dream.”

Perry tells the “Sunday Times” that the change was intentional after her high-profile divorce from Russell Brand.

“What I wanted to call this record at first was ‘Adult Reality,’ because ‘Teenage Dream’ was me so high on that cotton-candy cloud, and then it’s like I got punched in the face and kicked down the stairs a couple of times,” she said (via “Us Weekly”). “I had to face the reality that things are not always on cloud nine.”

That feeling is also said to be the inspiration for another “Prism” track called “By the Grace of God,” which she originally shared during her iTunes Music Festival performance last month.
