“Saturday Night Live” is about to get a little help from Olivia Pope.
TVLine reports that “Scandal” actress Kerry Washington will head to Studio 8H to make her debut as a host on “SNL” next month.
Following Edward Norton’s guest turn on October 26, the Emmy-nominated star will host on the November 2 show, with musical guest Eminem in his sixth musical guest performance on the sketch comedy show.
“SNL” will surely be looking to capitalize on the ratings success of Ms. Washington’s “Scandal,” which debuted to unspectacular numbers in its first season before growing into a ratings juggernaut.
As the first black female lead of a network drama in nearly 40 years, the news of Washington’s guest turn is also notable in that it combats something Kenan Thompson said recently.
Thompson blamed the show’s history of only four female African American cast members on a lack of quality black comediennes.
“It’s just a tough part of the business,” Thompson told TV Guide. “Like in auditions, they just never find ones that are ready.”
“SNL” airs Saturdays at 11:35pm on NBC, while new episodes of “Scandal” roll out Thursdays at 10pm on ABC. How do you think Kerry will do?
