While Robin Thicke and Daft Punk were battling it out for the Song of Summer, these talented ladies were gearing up for fall. Over the next three months, four of the biggest pop stars will release brand new albums, and we’ve got the lowdown:
1. Miley Cyrus, “Bangerz”
Lucky for us, the first album on our list has already dropped! Miley Cyrus released her fourth studio album “Bangerz” earlier this week, featuring her summer singles “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball,” the latter of which was her first song to peak at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The 13-track record, including a wild track with Britney Spears called “SMS (Bangerz),” shows a clear evolution from her Disney-influenced teen years into her rebellious twenties. According to Billboard, her record will land the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart next week, and judging by the positive critical response, “Bangerz” will surely be the hottest album of the season.
2. Katy Perry, “Prism”
“Prism,” Katy Perry’s third pop album, is set to be released on October 22. Her lead-off single “Roar” was released at the tail-end of summer, and not long after, she performed it live for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards. Less than two weeks later, “Roar” had reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, her tenth song to top the charts.
Since then, she has debuted two non-single tracks from “Prism,” including the ‘90s-inspired “Walking on Air” and the witchy “Dark Horse.” Perry announced that her second single, “Unconditionally,” will be released on the same day as “Prism,” on October 22. Given her astronomical success in the past, there is no doubt this album will meet expectations.
3. Lady Gaga, “Artpop”
“Artpop,” Lady Gaga’s long-awaited follow-up to “Born This Way,” will hit shelves this November 11. Her summer single “Applause” is the closing track on the album, proving that Gaga’s new album is pop perfection from start to finish.
In typical Gaga fashion, she’s been issuing teasers for her album over the past several weeks, most recently by commissioning loyal fans to construct a mural containing all the tracks on the album and later revealing her song “Aura” in a lyric video inspired by her upcoming film, “Machete Kills.” Fans won’t have to wait long for more Gaga, as her second single, “Venus” will be released on October 27.
4. Britney Spears, Upcoming 8th Album
Britney Spears is gearing up for a busy fall season with a new Las Vegas residency in the works and a hot new single. Not only that, but Britney fans can look forward to the release of her latest album, produced by the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am.
Her new record has yet to be named and will be available on December 8. We enjoyed Britney’s latest single “Work B****” and her racy new music video. If this new side of Brit Brit is a sign of things to come, her album should be a huge hit.
