Viral Video: Watch Sony’s Telekinetic “Carrie” Prank

Sony isn’t playing around with the promotion for their reboot of Stephen King’s “Carrie.”

Well, that’s not exactly true. The studio played a massive prank at a coffee shop in New York City inspired by the titular character’s telekinetic powers, “Entertainment Weekly” reports.

The new viral video, which has amassed nearly 4 million hits since it was posted on Monday, shows the trick from beginning to end.

The prank features a stuntman “accidentally” knocking over a woman’s coffee, which sets her off, leading her to telekinetically throw his body up a wall, before moving all of the tables and chairs in the coffee shop and knocking books off the shelves with her mind.

At least, that’s what the shop’s terrified customers saw. In reality, a fake wall had been constructed and the tables and chairs were remote-controlled.

“Carrie,” which stars Chloe Grace Moretz in the title role and Julianne Moore as her evangelical mother, hits theaters on Friday, October 18. What did you think of the viral marketing strategy?
