It’s Official: JLo & Harry Connick Jr. Set as “Idol” Judges

After what feels like the longest talent search in recent memory, “American Idol” has revealed its season 13 judging lineup.

Joining the previously announced Keith Urban are the long-rumored Jennifer Lopez and dark horse Harry Connick Jr., who came out of nowhere to nab the job after a series of setbacks for the long-running reality series.

Production on the new season begins right away, beginning with auditions on Tuesday, September 3 in Boston, according to “The Hollywood Reporter.”

“I have always been a huge fan of American Idol and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show,” Connick told “THR” last week. “And I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to ‘American idol,’ and to help emerging performers find their way.”

Randy Jackson has also been confirmed to return, albeit in a new role as the show’s in-house mentor, replacing the outgoing Jimmy Iovine.

Urban and Lopez will return for their second and third seasons judging, respectively, though the “On the Floor” singer sat last season out to tour and work on her eighth studio album.

Now that the judges are set, “Idol” is back on track to premiere in early 2014 on FOX.
